The Surge Tester, or pulse coil tester, is an instrument designed for testing coil-type products. It can test products containing all built-in coils, such as transformers, motors, switches, generators, and inductors. It is capable of detecting inter-turn short circuits in the coils, identifying insufficient self-insulation performance caused by various factors during the manufacturing process. For example, it can detect issues such as air bubbles in the insulation varnish, thin insulation at certain points leading to eventual breakdown and leakage of current after some usage time, or scratches on coils during assembly causing inter-turn short circuits.
When inter-turn short circuits occur in the coils, it results in changes in resistance and inductance. Such changes cannot be detected by conventional low-voltage instruments. The Surge Tester applies instantaneous pulses and high voltages to trigger inter-turn short circuits, thereby pinpointing the problematic areas. Unlike the Hipot insulation resistance tester, the Surge Tester operates with low energy release due to its use of instantaneous pulses, making it a non-destructive testing method.
In terms of detection capabilities, it provides area comparison, identifies waveform differences caused by variations in resistance and inductance between test objects and samples. It also performs corona calculation, automatically identifies short circuit points from waveforms, marks corona, and compares inductance values based on waveform frequency in high-voltage testing.
The Surge Tester features a unique ideal waveform display, providing developers with a better understanding of coil characteristics. It also tests inductance values during high-voltage testing, addressing issues with conventional inductors that can only be tested at low voltages and require input frequencies. For users of three-phase motors, it has an exclusive TPM three-phase motor dedicated mode, which can simultaneously display three-phase waveforms for comparison. In this mode, no sample is needed, and self-comparison of three-phase coils of three-phase motors can be conducted to determine if they maintain consistency.
Moreover, the Surge Tester has RS-232, TCP/IP, and I/O communication functions, allowing communication with upper-layer interfaces and connection to foot pedals, making it suitable not only for developers but also for production lines and full inspection processes.
HMC-330 The High Voltage Matrix Controller is primarily designed to be used in conjunction with the three-phase motor judgment mode inside the ST series pulse coil tester, enabling comprehensive testing and evaluation of three-phase motors. With just one operation, users can complete extensive comparative testing of three-phase motors, saving time and effort. It offers flexible control capabilities, an efficient user interface, and convenient features, providing a reliable solution for testing three-phase motors. Additionally, there are other models that support up to 10-hole outputs, allowing for various combinations with external low-resistance meters and high-voltage meters.
