An automated optical screening system was designed and developed in the present study to screen large quantities of SAP powder at the end of production line. This system employs automated powder identification with image processing to replace manual inspection. This system does not only enhance the quality of powder inspection for SAP powder, but also reduce the risk of eyesight damage for long term identification. Furthermore, the screened defects from SAP powders can be analyzed through this system for the benefit of tracing back their causes of overheated or foreign matters. This automated optical screening system can be applied to the improvement of production, product classification, management, and process inspection for powder particles, leading to a superior quality control.
